About the Book
I have always loved photographs; embarrassing or otherwise. I believe they are an integral part of family history and I have snapshots of family events that cover many years and generations.
However, in 2004 the gift of a digital SLR camera made me want to know more about this “art”, made me want to understand what makes
a good picture. This is definitely an ongoing process. I do not want to stop learning.
Since then I have learnt more technically and I have owned and used better and better digital cameras and I now “see” more everywhere
I go. The quality of light matters enormously, I strive to adjust my viewpoint to get the best shot and I hope that my vision is improving all the time. There are many occasions when I wish to capture (however crudely) moments in time; sometimes I have my camera to hand and these images are the result.
I know it is cliché but this is a passion of mine and I wish I was a better photographer, but if I really knew how to take a good photograph, I would do so every time I pressed the shutter!
This book is a compilation of some of the wonderful places I have been - far and near - and in the words of an inspirational photographer, Ansel Adams: “There are always two people in every photograph: the photographer and the viewer”.
I hope you take pleasure from some of the images in this book and if you get a fraction of the joy that I got in capturing many of these, then that makes me happy.
