About the Book
A group of young and upcoming artists in Dallas formed an artist-run, collective gallery in 1978. They transformed a 1919 tire factory brick building into artists' studios and a 3,000 square foot exhibition space, creating what was then the largest gallery space in Texas. The gallery located at 500 Exposition Street near the Texas State Fairgrounds started the downtown Dallas art scene called Deep Ellum.
