About the Book
A collection of over 106 early "Dream Of The Rarebit Fiend" comics. "Dream of the Rarebit Fiend" is a newspaper comic strip by American cartoonist Winsor McCay, begun September 10, 1904. Due to contractual reasons he wrote this strip under the name "Silas." The comics all center around the same theme. A person eats some Welsh Rarebit and has a bad dream. (Welsh Rarebit is basically melted cheese on toast.) Why this should cause strange dreams is unclear.
The strip is different than modern strips as there really isn't a funny punchline. Ever strip ends the same way, the dreamer wakes up and regrets eating the rarebit. The humor is found in the telling of the story, not with a punchline in the last frame as with modern strips.
Black and white line-art comics with a brief introduction.
