About the Book
In the 1980's Michael Horsley wandered the streets of Washington DC documenting the city during its pre-gentrification period. Once the cultural crossroads of Black Washington 14th and U street was devastated following the 1968 riots. By the 1980's the area was overrun by crime and drugs. Most white Washingtonians rarely ventured there unless to pursue vice. These photos depict a part of Washington ignored and abandoned by official Washington, DC of the politicians and tourists.
