About the Book
Classics coined the term "Ultima Thule" as a symbolic reference to denote a last frontier, a far-off land impossible to access or an unattainable goal.
However for sailors of the Ancient World, Ultima Thule was associated to the myth of a mysterious land where it was said that the Sun was setting and that they could only suspect of its existence since it was located beyond their charts.
Roman chronicles describe Thule as "an island in the Ocean between the northern and the western zone, beyond Britannia and to a distance of five days and nights of the Orkneys; in Thule, when the Sun is in the constellation of Cancer, it is said that there are perpetual days without nights..."
Iceland.
