About the Book
The Volk; definition: The People
The summer of 2016 has completely flown by with a LOT of life changing events which seemed to take my summer for a spin. Luckily, none of the life events stunned my vision and my team and I were able to put in hard, beautiful work to present to you this fall 2016 edition of The Volk.
A lot of my overall vision for The Volk is bringing together community throughout the Twin Cities and especially in the arts world. In our magazine all of the editorials, and articles are carefully thought out and put into production through The Volk, which is a rare quality to find in fashion magazines. Instead of asking people to submit work and ideas, we like to get hands on and collaborate with fellow artists. Minnesota has a LOT of talent, and here at The Volk we are so excited to show off the talent!
Our focus for this edition is rape culture and raising awareness on the serious issue of the Sex Trafficking Industry. Unfortunately Minnesota is one of the top states in the United States where sex trafficking is hot commodity. The Volk was blessed to have United Nations spokes woman Madeline Flemming as our cover girl as well as having the opportunity to partake in the nationwide event "Take Back the Night" at Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
