The fifty drawings and sculptures shown in this album are from a two-year process aimed at exploring a direction for abstract art. The process, undertaken with the help of my longtime teacher and friend, Leslie Laskey, was based on transforming three subjects – a seated figure, a prickly pear and a saguaro – from literal to abstract while seeking not only the expressive possibilities of abstract art, but the visual qualities that make these subjects special.
