About the Book
Urban Solitude represents a personal journey exploring the irony of solitude in such an urban and fast paced environment. A place called home by many and a home to many without a place. The bubble which people form around themselves shields them from the energetic and competitive landscape that can overwhelm every sense of the body. Despite Hong Kong's urban density, there are gaps in time and space where the return to solitude is carried out via modern means. Technology combined with the distracted eye is a part of the city's soul and one that can consume the already initiated folk that now call this place home. With the absence of conversation and culture comforts, the mind slowly loses focus on what it means to be a part of something bigger than the self. Eventually you are consumed by the streets and begin to feel a part of their energy. Solitude can co-exist with being another face in the arteries of the pulsating streets. Finding solitude can sometimes be the task that was never undertaken but the gateway to another form of expression. This urban odyssey reflects the irony of solitude.
