About the Book
Moses Tan has created a unique photography book of his Italian journey. Beautifully nuanced and richly textured, these contemporary images are possessed of a ‘sheen of antiquity’ – appropriate for a country that has so long fired the imagination. Moses Tan – a master of Photoshop – has layered his images with the patina of aged parchment, investing them with an almost tactile quality. They bring to mind the gum bichromate prints of an earlier era.
The book explores Rome, Siena, Florence and Venice, but they do not claim the lion’s share of Moses Tan’s photographic peregrination. His vision expands in inverse ratio to the size of a place so that little hillside towns like San Gimignano and Roccantica are explored expansively and intimately.
In combining the ancient and the modern, the physical and the digital, Moses Tan shows us anew the wonder of these places and the poetry that is Italy.
