About the Book
This book contains copies of handwritten letters from two adventurers (ancestors of the author). One of them, Matthew Hackney, wrote to his parents in Illinois about his travels aboard a whaling ship to Australia and New Zealand in the1830's, and his near-fatal exploration of Western Australia. James, his brother, wrote letters from Mexico in 1846 and from the California Gold Rush in 1850. The letters were copied for readability purposes by a grandson of James Hackney.

I am a retired teacher. At age 94, I am still traveling. I like seeing how people around the world negotiate life, and I am interested in culture, art, history, work, and all kinds of animals. I've been to all 7 Continents and at least 54 countries and have enjoyed all of them! I love taking pictures, although I am strictly an amateur photographer. I find that making Blurb Books is my favorite way of keeping the memories alive.
