A LARGE AND DIVERSE NUMBER OF SETS WERE CHOSEN TO ALLOW INSTRUMENTALISTS TO START PERFORMING SETS OF TUNES STRAIGHT AWAY. THE SUGGESTED SETS ARE ONLY MEANT AS EXAMPLES AND SHOULD BE CHANGED IF PREFERRED. FOR BOX PLAYERS THE BOOK PROVIDES CHORDS PLACED BENEATH THE MUSIC NOTATION BUT THERE ARE ALSO CHORD ARRANGEMENTS INCLUDED WHICH MAY MAKE IT EASIER ON THE EYES FOR GUITAR, BOUZOUKI OR CITTERN PLAYERS.
WHILE IT IS CUSTOM TO PLAY EACH TUNE TWICE OR RATHER THREE TIMES, MOST TUNES WERE PLAYED ONCE ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SHEER NUMBER OF TUNES. HOWEVER, SOME TUNES WERE PERFORMED TWICE. ANOTHER FEW WERE PRESENTED WITH BODHRAN ACCOMPANIMENT. THE SINGLE
REEL FLOWERS OF RED HILL WAS PLAYED THREE TIMES BECAUSE OF ITS VARIATIONS. EACH TUNE IN THE SET SPORTING PADDY – MAN OF THE HOUSE (SINGLE REELS) WAS REPEATED THREE TIMES AS WELL. THE REEL MASON’S APRON WAS PLAYED WITH FOUR VARIATIONS.
~ CHORD ARRANGEMENTS ~
Chord Arrangements were meticulously vetted for accuracy.

About the Creator
PLAYING, COLLECTING AND RESEARCHING IRISH FOLK MUSIC. (MAINLY INSTRUMENTALS) STUDYING THE IRISH 4 STRING TENOR BANJO. (ALSO CALLED THE SHORT NECK , THE SHORT SCALE OR THE 17 FRET BANJO) TUNING: G D A E. I started playing the 4 string banjo when I was about 24 years old. Before attempting to play the banjo I used to play folk music on guitar, mostly accompanying fiddlers and tin whistle players; just trying to give them the right chords. To begin with: Little did I know how to play the 4 string Irish Tenor Banjo. Choice of strings, sizing of the banjo and correct tuning where once a mystery to me. However, over the years trial and error eventually payed off. Nowadays I play the short neck 4 string banjo tuned G D A E. (The short neck banjo is also called the short scale banjo (17 frets). Finding one suitable system that worked for me has been a real struggle. I hope that you will appreciate with what I came up with in the course of time. See preview: "TENOR BANJO ~ SET & TUNES"
