About the Book
The Pemigewasset River is a major river in central New Hampshire, whose name aptly fits it Abenaki Indian meaning of “rapidly moving.” The Pemigewasset Native American tribe inhabited and fished along the banks of this majestic river in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Today, ancestors of the early European settlers who came to the region and formed the town of Plymouth, New Hampshire, also thrive and are nurtured by the powerful presence of the mighty Pemigewasset.
You cannot step twice into the same river. —Heraclitus
The river of time flows through the camera as time flows through us. We are the camera obscura where we lift, layer by layer, the treasures of life, slowly bringing to light what we have found inside those dark chambers.
These treasures, or precious tools help us to move forward on our path. They become our teacher and life-companion, for a while.
Photography students at Plymouth state University were challenged to consider the presence of water and slowness in their daily lives, both literally and metaphorically.
I wish to thank all my students included in this book for their focused efforts, and their permission to share these resultant photographs and essays with the world. I extend my heartfelt wishes for continued success in their chosen paths.

From early childhood, nature has been my teacher. I am self-taught, learning from nature. When young I watched the flora of the Black Forest, its changes, how it unfolds, how time works upon it. Each step is its own beauty. I look at a wilting flower and see it become a beautiful gown. Nature knows much. Gradually I learn some of what nature knows. This learning becomes my art. www.lightbox.berlin
