About the Book
At times, frightening, at others, funny, the photographic work of Gordon Beebe delves into the unexamined recesses of the mind. What is uncovered reveals not only a person struggling with habits, beliefs, limitations, and fears, but also one in awe of the mystery of all that is.
In some of the works, bizarre machines trap the poor mortal in his torment. Though the predicament may seem hopeless, each work includes a clue to its resolution. In other works, he searches surreal landscapes for answers to the fundamental questions of existence.
A section following the plates describes the mental and emotional issues involved in the creation process. Accompanying each text is a magnified segment of the work, as well as sketches made during its construction.
The final section covers the nuts-and-bolts of how each work was created. From camera and lighting issues to final production using Photoshop®, it is amply illustrated with behind-the-scenes photographs, diagrams and sketches that clarify the process.
