About the Book
11,894 km of cycling, 11 countries, 4 punctures, 1 broken frame, 1 broken wheel rim, 6 broken spokes, 2 broken pedals, 1 broken gear cable, 1 broken chain, 2 very tired cyclists.
We started our ride in Ulaan Baatar, crossing the vast wilderness of Mongolia to enter the beautiful mountainous Altai region of Russia. From there we entered Kazakhstan, heading South across the steppes to the old capital Almaty before turning East into China. With a little luck we were able to cycle up the Ile valley into the Northern Tien Shan mountains. Crossing these we hurriedly circled the Taklimakan desert before joining the old silk route in Kashgar in time to cross the Karakorum mountain range before winter set in. From here we skirted the Himalayas and eventually reached our half way point of Nepal in early December.
