About the Book
How does society deal with extreme heat? Can extreme heat be made visible? Sociologist Brian O'Neill and geographer Anne-Lise Boyer inaugurate the first zine project on extreme heat with this issue of Heat Diary, an ongoing project of visual ethnographic work that explores these questions. This first issue takes as its object the devices, or what they call the "dispositifs" aimed at combatting heat, especially in urban environments. What devices are put into play for people to survive extreme conditions, from the most high-tech to the most quotidian? A combination image-text work, this issue also features an essay by film critic Julie Mengelle.
