About the Book
This collection was inspired by the book of National Geographic Photographer Joel Sartore: National Geographic Photo Ark: One Mans Quest to Document the World's Animals. His intimate look at so many beautiful creatures made me want to take a closer look at the photos I have taken of animals and birds of the Monterey Peninsula and especially of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. My images hope to show the unique colors and patterns of different species, and sometimes individual expressions.

Carmel, California
I was a California State Park Ranger for 35 years. I spent 31 years at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve in Carmel, California. The photographs in my collections were taken over an almost 40 year period. I started with a Nikon camera and Kodachrome 64. In the early 2000's I switched to Nikon digital and have been happy ever since. Locations for my adventures include Point Lobos, Monterey Peninsula, Carmel Valley, and Big Sur, Moss Landing, and various spur of the moment locals when the a subject presents itself. I retired from state parks at the end of December 2011 and now I have even more time to go and play at Point Lobos, my favorite place on Earth.
