About the Book
My deepest thanks to all of you who were willing to stop and let me capture you in that moment and in that place. Although it started in the 1960s, The AIDS epidemic was just becoming known in the early 80s when coincidently I was making these photographs. It is hard not to look at these images and wonder how many of these men are still alive forty years later. It humbles me and I dedicate this book to that fight and to those brave men. It is difficult to be who you are in a world that is not ready to see you. This entire book was shot in only four outings, but it took four years to complete. I never published it and I really can’t tell you why. I am doing it now to honor those who posed and because friends have nagged me to do so. Thanks for that too!

About the Creator
David Skernick was born in the heartland of the United States David started taking pictures of the only interesting things in his hometown: people and landscapes. He eventually narrowed his work to landscapes because nature didn’t ask so many questions. David developed an appreciation of the sometimes-overlooked magnificence that is American nature and landscapes. He travels exclusively in his truck “Bob” on the “grey roads” (back roads), and never the same road twice. David resides in Woodland Hills, California with his wife Ria and dog Dudley. He spends as much time as possible teaching and traveling the grey roads of America. Schiffer Books Is publishing a series of books. “Yellowstone Country”, “Back Roads of Southern California”, “Back Roads of Northern California”, “American Carnival”, “How Did You Get That Shot”, “Back Roads of the Southwest” and Back Roads of the Great Plains are currently available for order and preorder wherever books are sold.
