Traveling across Japan, I have encountered people and ideas unlike anything I ever imagined before I stepped foot in the country. That is the uniqueness there, the distinct character for which the Japanese people are world-famous. Time and again, I returned to Japan assuming that I had seen everything that there was to see. It was only on my last and most recent visit that I realised something: I would never see everything that there is to see there.
