About the Book
In the Mojave is a collection of 42 poems that chronicle a year in the life of the Mojave Desert. The poems are divided into four sections, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter--plus a bonus section on Little Petroglyph Canyon, an archeological treasure located near Ridgecrest, California. Black-and-white photographs by Bill Dahl introduce each section and help bring the Mojave to life.
"Cynthia Anderson crafts a new landscape from an ancient disquiet. Her poems are infused with elegant, precise observations and a mystic's sensibility." ----Maureen Alsop, Poet; author of Apparition Wren and co-editor of Inlandia: A Literary Journey
"Some poems happen in the spaces between words. Cynthia's poems happen beyond and under them as well. Through her deft descriptions and magical insight, we come to share her great love of the Mojave." ----Perie Longo, Santa Barbara Poet Laureate Emerita; author of With Nothing Behind But Sky
"My experience of these poems is one of solitude, solitude and the beauty that is time, haunted by human witness." --Michael Hannon, Poet; author of Poems & Days and Trusting Oblivion
