    About the Book

    Edit

Each morning for five years, Rudolph Van Wyk crossed the Auckland Harbour Bridge on the NX1 bus from Red Beach into the city. From his seat beside the window, the harbour slowly revealed itself – light rising behind Rangitoto, clouds stretching across the skyline, reflections forming and dissolving across the water.

Armed with nothing more than a curious eye and an iPhone, Rudolph began capturing these fleeting moments as they appeared. Those photographs became Bridging Moments, a visual journey through Auckland mornings between 2019 and 2024.

This companion reflection book invites the reader to step more deeply into those moments.

Each photograph from Bridging Moments is paired with a short reflection – quiet thoughts inspired by light, stillness, movement, and the rhythm of crossing the harbour each day.

While designed as a companion to the photo book, this volume can also stand on its own as a gentle collection of reflections on noticing beauty in the ordinary.

Together, the words and images form a meditation on presence, gratitude, and the everyday wonder of Auckland – the City of Sails.
