About the Book
Downtown Lubbock exists in a state of juxtaposition.
Once the city's economic and industrial center, it is now nearly abandoned and inhabited only by law offices, bail bondsmen, and fledgling restaurants.
Recent revitalization efforts have brought a much needed spark to the area, but they also highlight the disparity between the past and present. Lavish restaurants, bars, and wineries overlook abandoned department stores from decades past, while former industrial sites now feature luxury lofts overlooking the homeless population below. A certain bank holds it's name atop one of the area's most prominent buildings of the downtown skyline, further adding to the dichotomy of money being in the area but not put to good use.
This publication aims to reflect on the transitory period of the area. I hope it encourages residents to pause and reflect on their own past before moving forward into the future. Nothing is permanent; ideas and institutions are all temporary.
Special thanks to: Braxton Lozano, Matt Edwards.
