About the Book
‘In the most primitive societies no clear distinction is visible between religious and non-religious activities; as we proceed to examine more developed societies, we perceive a greater distinction, and finally contrast and opposition, between these activities’ (Eliot, 1948).
A non-believer could easily state that religion is a process of careful selection of concepts, words, objects and outright rejection of others, and that this characterise a behaviour of a normal folk, living normal life under given cultural tradition, where he is selecting and deselecting fruits of a man-made part of the environment he inhabits.
However, for a Christian, ‘No one who lives in Christ keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him’ . This implies that ‘living in Christ’ is not concerned about history, culture or tradition and as such, it eclipses these.
These are two very different points of view that do not seem to cross often.
‘No-Saints-here’ does not claim to be a portrait of Robert or a document of his life.
The arbitrary sequence of images I am proposing is an attempt to depict a complex, and always present in the advanced societies, tension between religious and non-religious activities . Tension between how the religious followers are perceived and how they want to be perceived. It is an assumed constellation or an invitation and introduction to discussion about faith seen as cultural phenomenon.
