      About the Book

      Edit

Achieving the ideal balance between Yin (softness) and Yang (hardness) is a fundamental goal in the art of Taijiquan, enabling a return to the natural state of the practitioner’s body and mind. Hardness is easy to practice, but softness is difficult to develop. Only through softness, however, can true hardness be found, and with it true power. The exercises which form the core of this book were developed over the last few years by Master Chen Bing, and they focus on the Yin aspect of Taiji, on softness and relaxation. Through diligent practice of these exercises, practitioners will develop an authentic Taiji practice and come to embody the essence of the art. In addition to these core exercises, Master Chen also sheds light on other fundamental Taiji practices, including Zhan Zhuang, Stepping, Reeling Silk, Fajin, and his short form “Chen style Taiji Harmony 13 Form”, and guides the reader through some historical and theoretical aspects of Taijiquan. The book will serve as a perfect reference for all students and teachers of Taiji, particularly those in schools which follow Master Chen’s teaching methods. Not only for those just starting on their Taiji journey, the book will also help all practitioners experienced enough to understand the need to focus on the most fundamental source of Taiji power - relaxation.
