About the Book
Through a Still Lens contains 300 production photographs by Mary Manchester, documenting the production of Dead Weight, as well as the emotional journey of cast and crew. Filmed primarily on location in rural Wisconsin, the majority of Dead Weight was shot during a weeklong period in April of 2011. All who worked on the project embarked on a journey for which they never could have fully prepared; withstanding harsh Wisconsin weather in all its extremes. The intense challenges of a tight outdoor shooting schedule pushed the filmmakers to their limits. The film which Dead Weight became, as well as the Dead Weight family that was forged, is a direct result of those challenges.
