About the Book
In 2015, I decided to pull together a collection of my photos that chronicled my life in the 1970s and 80s, when I was fortunate enough to travel around the country alone and with friends. The photos are full of honesty and tell the story of my life as a young man, and the lives of my friends, in real time. The period spans a time of enormous change: from the end of the Vietnam War, when liberal ideas persevered, to the 1980s when conservatism began to take power.
The project includes road trips, weekend jaunts, summer jobs and adventures in the outdoors. “Images from the Road” tells a story of my wanderings with friends and a camera. The collection began as one-a-day posts on Instagram with accompanying captions and hashtags, many of which are included in this book.
I am grateful to my friends (I can’t possibly name everyone) who tolerated the intrusion of my camera and allowed me to tell our story in pictures.
