She was strong, decisive and tenacious. Willing to listen to the ideas of others, she always made the final decision, even though she often let others take the glory.
A woman of deep faith, her life reflected I Corinthians 13: the greatest gift is love. Her friends, family and especially her grandchildren felt that love. And, that love has endured for decades after her passing. She taught through stories and actions what true happiness meant to her. And, to her true happiness was evidenced by strong family ties. Watching her in action as grandchildren, we got it! I think in our earlier years, in our own way, we all believed that families were forever. But time and social pressures changed the game plan.
I decided to resurrect Mamie. This book serves to remind us all what Grandma taught us. And that was: We can’t control what happens, but we can always control what happens next. She led by example: Love one another, appreciate what you have, show concern for others, give what you can, commit to your goals, and be courageous in standing up for your beliefs.
Mamie was and is, our guiding force in bequeathing a legacy of great value to future generations. She emphasized the importance of seeking wholeness, sharing life’s lessons, making memories and staying connected. Grandma gave each of us her time and her wisdom according to our own particular needs—in our hearts, it is her love, her stories, and her reputation that we treasure. Let’s pass it on…
