Nature in Print
monoprinting using a gelatine plate
by Sandra Pearce
About the Book
'Nature in Print - monoprinting using a gelatine plate' is an insight into the way that artist Sandra Pearce creates colourful monoprints at home, inspired by the natural world. Using leaves and other found objects, stamps and stencils, you can learn how to get started in monoprinting using a gelatine plate or a permanent gelli plate. The book contents include an introduction to monoprinting, how to make your own plate, the advantages of each type of plate, the basic techniques, advanced techniques, tips and hints on composition, as well as a gallery of Sandra's artworks which will inspire you to start printing.
In my art practice I work with paper and natural fibres, forming my materials into sculptural works, using them as natural dyes for paper or incorporating them in my printmaking processes. I specialise in the printmaking technique of monoprinting, using plant materials, stencils and other found objects to develop images on paper, creating layers of rich colour and flowing marks. The images and objects I create seek to describe my perceptions and relationship with the natural world, rather than try to replicate it in a representational manner.
